Chicago Navy Base Reopened After Active Shooter Report

CHICAGO –The U.S. Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, Illinois, was on a lockdown after an active shooter report near the base.

For local parents hearing of this lockdown, sounds like nothing to fear. Sources say it was civilians involved and the base has reopened approximately 2:45 p.m. EST.

There are roughly 40,000 recruits that pass through the base annually with an estimated 7,000 recruits there at any time. Many aspiring sailors from Southeastern Indiana pass through the base at one time or another.

The base is located just north of Chicago.
