The St Louis 7th grade boys basketball team hosted the Sunman-Dearborn Trojans on Thursday and were able to come away with a good win 31-25.
The game started off with Sunman-Dearborn controlling the inside and that coupled with the Cardinals unable to convert some short shot around the goal allowed the Trojans to take a 8 – 4 about half way during the 1st quarter. But St. Louis fought back on defense and was able to tie the score by the end of the quarter at 10-10. In the 2nd quarter, St Louis played tough defense on the Trojans and were to knock some shots putting the Cardinals up 23 – 14 at half time. In the second half, St. Louis struggled a bit to score but their defense continued to keep the Trojans in check and the Cardinals were able to secure another victory by the score of 31 – 25.
The scoring for St. Louis consisted of Freeland with 2, Schebler 2, Oesterling 13, Ratcliff 6 and Voegele 8. After to getting off to a slow start, the Cardinals defense all played well as a team as they created turnovers and worked hard keep the Trojans off the board. The scoring for Sunman Dearborn was led by Luke Collinsworth with 14.
The Cardinals record now goes to 20-2. The next game is next Tuesday against St. Nicholas. The game will be played at Milan beginning at 6:00.

On 8th grade recognition night, the St. Louis Cardinals 8th grade boys basketball team defeated a short- handed Sunman-Dearborn Middle School team by a final score of 31 to 19.
The Cardinals, after enjoying a 15 to 10 lead at the half , held the visiting Trojans at bay in the 3rd quarter, and took a 27 to 10 lead going into the final stanza.
Jacob Deutsch was aggressive inside the paint and finished with a game high 8 points. Evan Vogelsang had the touch from the outside connecting on a pair of 3’s. Adam Cox and Jonathan Deal followed with 5 points each. Charlie Dice had 4 points and Zach Harmeyer added a trey. Zeb Streator did not make the scoring column, but a couple of block shots seem to ignite his Cardinal teammates. Joey Gutzwiller, Keegan Weberding, Aaron Weber, Eli Tuveson, and Abe Peetz assisted in the scoring and provided solid defense.
The 9-11 Cardinals will finish the regular season Tuesday night against St Nicholas.
