The ladies auxiliary of VFW Post 3183 is sponsoring an art contest for students in grades 9-12. This contest is offered each year and is a great way to earn money fro college! the art must be on paper or canvas and have a patriotic theme. Digital art is not accepted. The art must be original. Judging is based on originality, presentation, and patriotism expressed. There are monetary awards given locally and at the State level. The national winners will receive scholarships. Home schooled students are eligible, foreign exchange students are not. Your entry must be signed by a teacher. You can obtain an entry form by calling Kay Pulskamp, chairperson at 934-3442. Please submit your art by March 31st, 2014. The first place winner will be sent to the State Scholarship Chairman for judging. Your art will be returned to you ater judging is complete. Southeastern Indiana Voices for Children Inc is a volunteer based organization that advocates for abused and/or neglected children in Ripley & Jefferson Counties who have become wards of the state through Department of Child Services intervention. Voices for Children is beginning a new volunteer class on March 15 in Madison for prospective volunteers in Ripley and Jefferson Counties. Application deadline is Feb 28. Church on the Rock in Batesville welcomes international evangelists the Rev. Michael and Linda Livengood, during five services Sunday, March 9 through Wednesday, March 12.
The Livengood’s will lead the services at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. March 9 and again at 6:30 p.m. nightly, March 10 – 12.
Rev. Livengood serves as the Founder and President of Mike Livengood Ministries and Doorkeepers New Zealand.
Travelling the globe to share the gospel, the couple extends an inspirational message that will challenge and inspire.
The public is welcome. There is no cost.

Fundraiser event sponsored by Batesville Music Boosters. The Battle will feature teen bands from throughout a four county area, playing a variety of music, competing for cash prizes for the top three bands. A panel of experienced musicians will participate as judges for the event scoring the bands’ performance based on musicianship, stage presence, organization, originality, creativity and crowd reaction. The event provides talented young musicians with the opportunity to get their band out of the garage and onto the stage performing for their peers and other members of the community.
The event is open to the public.

Registration fee is $20 per band. Registration is limited to the first 8 bands. Deadline to register is April 19th.
American Legion Sunman has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati to host a Community Blood Drive on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm. The Blood Drivewill take place at American Legion Sunman, located at 412 Eastern Ave., in Sunman, IN.

Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.
“Local blood donors ensure that local patients at 31 area hospitals receive the lifesaving blood products they need to survive,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. “Community blood drives are vitally important and we hope to see a good turnout at the American Legion Sunman blood drive.”
How to Donate:
Donating blood is safe and easy. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health. Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and proudly serves 31 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 90,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. At least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors are essential each day to keep up with the demands of the tri-state hospitals and their patients.
