Bulldogs, Trojans, & Pirates In 3-Way Track Meet

Track & FieldBoth boys and girls Batesville High School track teams traveled to Greensburg to open up their season as the Pirates hosted a 3-way meet between them, us and the East Central Trojans. The wind got pretty gusty at times, but the sun was shining and temperature was pleasant. Many solid performances and personal records were accomplished to start off a very promising season. By the end of the evening, the Batesville girls were the overall champions by just over 30 points.

Girls Scores were: BHS-81, EC-50, and GHS-37.
The boys took a split victory as EC led the way with 94.5 points to Batesville’s 54.5, which outscored Greensburg’s 17.

The top 4 indiviaduals scored for their team. Batesville was victorious in only 4 out of 16 events for the boys as the girls were successful in 9 out of 16 with several Bulldogs being multiple winners. (Ginny Westerfeld, Kelsey Gausman, Rylee Goldsmith and Kim Tidman).

Bringing home the blues ribbons were:
Nathan Longstreth-high jump (6′)
Michael Tunny-400m dash (55.04)
Matt Dennis-300H (44.09)
Kim Tidman-Long jump and high jump (16’2.25 and 5’2″)
Ginny Westerfeld-100m dash & 200m dash (12.17 and 26.6)
Rylee Goldsmith-400m dash (1:06.36)
Kelsey Gausman-800m run & 1600m run (2:44.5 and 5:55.25)
Both 4 x 800 teams of Cole Nuhring, Calvin Lehman, Connor Bell and Garrett Yorn(8:53.9), Mary Poltrack, Sarah Poltrack, Grace Yeaton and Kelsey Gausman(10:56.8)
and the girls 4 x 400 team of Ginny Westerfeld, Clare Bruns, Kelsey Gausman and Rylee Goldsmith(4:24.92)

2nd place finishes were:
Tom Chaffee and Rylee Goldsmith-high jump, Jordan Moorman-discus, Tanner Ayette-100m dash, Grace Yeaton-3200m run and 800m run, Cassie Reverman-shot put, the 4 x 100 teams of Tanner Ayette, Zach Mears, Jacob Keohne and Michael Tunny, Michaela Westerfeld,
Kim Tidman, Sophie Meadows and Ginny Westerfeld.

Scoring in 3rd were:
Jared Ilderton-high jump, Kevin Bedel and Cassie Reverman-discus and long jump, Calvin Lehman 3200m run, Connor Belland Mary Poltrack-1600m run, John Moody and Michaela Westerfeld-400m dash, Tanner Ayette-200m dash, Lauren Eckstein-3200m run, Lexi
Hatcher-Pole Vault, Clare Bruns-100m and 300m hurdles

Finishing out the scoring in 4th place were:
Matt Dennis-100m hurdles, Zach Mears and Sophie Meadows-100m dash, Jacob Koehne-200m dash, Cody Reer-shot put, Maria Wessel-3200m run, Alex Wirth-pole vault, Sarah Poltrack-1600m run

As mentioned in the opening, many athetes competed at a personal best performance to open up the 2014 track season. They were, by event:
