The 8th grade Batesville Middle School boys basketball team lost a hard fought contest versus Sunman-Dearborn A Team with a nail-biter finish 35-34.

After a difficult 1st half for the dogs ended with them down 12 to 3 in the first quarter and 20 to 6 in the 2nd.

A much better 2nd half started with Batesville outscoring Sunman-Dearborn by 1 point ending the third period 31 to 18.

In the 4th quarter the Bulldogs stepped up the defensive pressure and controlled the boards. Defense led to offense and after 4 quarters Batesville found themselves at the short end of a 35 to 34 point ballgame.

Batesville Individual scoring:  Seth Gausman 5 pts; Colt Meyer 16 pts; Brayden Linkel 3 pts; Bill Lynam 4 pts; Dempsy Bohman 4 pts; and Jake Cruse 2 pts.

Batesville’s record is now 5-4

“The boys showed great heart after a disappointing 1st half. They came out in the second half and poured it on defensively, and took advantage of every offensive opportunity they had in the 2nd half. We protected the ball much better in the 2nd half, giving scorers like Colt Meyer a chance cash in on open 3 pt looks. John Thompson played a big role off the bench, adding length on defense and pulled in some timely rebounds. Overall I think it was a great game for us as a team, and I’m excited to see if we can put together that type of 2nd half effort throughout the remainder of the season.” -Coach Bradford.
