Bulldogs Fall To Knights In EIAC Baseball Action

BaseballThe Batesville Bulldogs lose 10-7 to South Dearborn Knights in Varsity Baseball action.

Wyatt Schebler did all he could to give the Bulldogs a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past South Dearborn, as the Bulldogs lost 10-7 in seven innings on Thursday.

Schebler reached base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the first inning.

Alex Smith got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings. Smith struck out two, walked two and gave up six hits.

Schebler took the loss for the Bulldogs. He lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

In the top of the first, the Bulldogs grabbed the early lead, 1-0. A solo home run by Schebler started the inning off.

The lead stayed with South Dearborn after the second, when it scored three runs on two errors.

South Dearborn added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Wyatt Schwing’s double got things going, scoring Smith.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut their deficit to three. An RBI single by Jacob Wilson and an RBI single by Jacob Vogelsangset off the Bulldogs rally. Finally, Tyler Moorehead induced an inning-ending strike out from Kollin Macke.

South Dearborn survived the Bulldogs’ surge and put up four runs of its own in the sixth. South Dearborn scored on an RBI single by Ian Rutzel, a walk byKj Probst, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Caleb Rudisell.

Four runs in the top of the seventh helped the Bulldogs close their deficit to 10-7. A passed ball and a two-run error fueled the Bulldogs’ comeback. The Bulldogs’ Jacob Vogelsang to end the ballgame.
