Bulldogs Capture Boys Track Sectional Crown @ EC With Results

Congratulations to the Batesville Bulldog Track and Field team as they defended their title yet again at the boys Sectional competition tonight! This is Batesville 4th year in a row taking home the Sectional trophy sneaking by East Central by 11.5 points.

There were a few disappointments on the night, but overall, many awesome performance leading to many Bulldogs placing higher than expected. The dogs fought hard to the end and have the 2017 Sectional trophy to show for it!

Scores were as follows: Batesville-112, East Central-100.5, Franklin County-96, Oldenburg-79, Lawerenceburg-66, Greensburg-62.5, South Decatur-36, South Dearborn-22, Milan-16, Rising Sun-15, Jac-Cen-Del-6, South Ripley-5 and North Decatur-4.5.

The Bulldogs claimed several individual Sectional Championships and two of the three relays. The night on the track opened with the 4 x 800m relay where Batesville ran a 6 second PR (just shy of the meet record) to be the first Sectional Champion crowned on the night, running an 8:20.49, just beating our neighbors, Oldenburg Academy at 8:21.72. Members of the Championship 4 x 800 team are Quinten Gowdy, Joseph Choi, Adam Moster, and Caleb Moster.

The 2nd championship of the night came from the very next race, the 110m high hurdles from junior Garrett Wagner. Garrett broke the meet and the stadium record by hundreds of a second, cruising through at 15.02. Garrett also claimed the 300m hurdle Sectional Championship, not only breaking the Sectional, stadium and school record, but also hit the automatic state standards as he flew through at 38.94! Caleb Moster put on a great finish in the last 100 meters of the 800 run to claim 1st place by less than a second at 2:02.28.

Finally, to end the night and to clinch the team Sectional Championship, the boys 4 x 400m relay left nothing in question as they beat the rest of the field by 8 seconds at 3:33.63. Members of the 4 x 400m team are: Caleb Moster, Quinten Gowdy, Henry Lipinski and Garrett Wagner. Congratulations to all our sectional champs!

Also automatically advancing to Regional competition (placing 3rd or better) are: Robert Strobal-2nd Pole Vault; Caleb Moster-2nd 1600m run; Nathan Bedel-3rd Pole Vault; Ian Yorn-3rd-400m dash
4 x 100m relay team-3rd with Peyton Meyer, CJ Thomas, Jon Kurtz and Gavin Koester.

Also placing fourth, but advancing to regionals as a callback is Michael Ripperger in the 1600m run. Congratulations to all qualifiers!!!

Scoring went to the top 8 places, so beside the above, those helping win that sectional title were:  4th place: Adam Moster-3200m run; 5th places: Zach Harmeyer-400m dash, Henry Lipinski-300m hurdles; 6th place finish: Garrett Wagner-200m dash; 7th place finish: Gavin Koester-100m dash.

There were many personal records broken and they were:
4 x 400 splits-Quinten Gowdy and Henry Lipinski; 400m dash-Zach Harmeyer; 800m run-Caleb Moster and Quinten Gowdy; 4 x 800 splits-Quinten Gowdy, Joseph Choi and Adam Moster; 1600m run-Michael Ripperger; 300m hurdles-Garrett Wagner and Henry Lipinski; Shot Put-Peyton Meyer; Discus-Ben Krieg.

Congratulations to all…and also congratulations to Oldenburg Academy’s Curt Eckstein for breaking the 3200m Sectional record by over 10 seconds, flying through at 9:18.03.

All the boys advancing will compete at the Regional competition next Thursday at Warren Central high School. Good luck everyone!

The Greensburg Boys Track and Field team finished 6th in the IHSAA Sectional meet Thursday evening with 65 1/2 points and advanced two athletes to the regional meet next Thursday at Warren Central High School.

The two athletes advancing are senior Zach Pokrzywinski in the high jump and freshman Hunter Butz in the 800m run. Both athletes had 3rd place finishes to punch their ticket to next week. Pokrzywinski was part of a 3-way tie at 5’8″ and Butz ran a PR of 2:05.67 to become the 2nd fastest freshman in school history.

Overall the team performed and placed well and had a better meet than last week at the conference. A big thank you to our seniors who lead us all season and showed solid leadership on and off the track. Also, congrats to Batesville and Coach Gausman on another sectional team crown.

4th place.4×800 Relay-Reid McClintic (PR split), Kevin Johnson, Louis Moore, Butz; 4×400 Relay-Jadrian Woods, Moore, Butz, Daimon Austin; Long Jump- Austin – 18′ 10 3/4″; Discus- Tanner Yonts (PR 128’4);

5th place. Long Jump – Pokrzywinski 18′ 6 3/4″; 4×100 Relay – Isaiah Myer, Vincent Pavy, Luke Lozier, Pokrzywinski; 1600m – Jared Hasselbring 4:50.92; 100m – Pokrzywinski 11.61.

6th place. 400m – Woods; Pole Vault – Matthew Myer; 1600m – Kevin Johnson.

7th place. Shot Put – Dylan Cain; 3200m – Reid McClintic; 400m – Austin.

Tied for 7th in Pole Vault – Charlie Pumphrey.

8th place. 100m & 200m – Isaiah Myer.
