Bulldogs And Raiders Split Boys Games

basketballThe 7th grade Batesville Bulldogs started their season with a win over the South Ripley Raiders. Batesville was led in scoring by Cole Werner with 13 points, Hunter Laudick with 10, and Eli Pierson with 5. Travis Lecher, Ean Lochinger, and Ian Powers played very well defensively and also pulled dwon some key rebounds. Batesville’s defensive effort on the 4th quarter was the difference maker and earned them a 34-30 win. The 7th graders are now 1 and 0 on the season.   

The 8th grade Batesville Bulldogs lost to a very tough South Ripley team on Monday, November 14th.  The Bulldogs fought back from an 18 point deficit at halftime to close the gap, but fell short of the win 47-54.  The Bulldogs were led in scoring by RJ Powell with 20 points and Calvin Sherwood with 15 points.  Trey Peters and Mason Barker both had 4 points and Kristian Hinners and Jaden Peetz scored a bucket as well.  Pros Moorman came off the bench to provide a defensive spark. 

The 8th grade Bulldogs are 0-1 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow night as they face Jac-Cen-Del at home.

Grade 7-Batesville 34 South Ripley 30  

The visiting Bulldogs were able to hold off the Raiders 34-30 in a hard fought game by both sides. A couple of late three-pointers by Batesville enabled the visitors to hang on in the fourth against the gritty Raiders. Zach Gentile paced the 7th graders with 13 points while Bryce Wrightsman added 8 points, Ryan Miller 4, Dalton Smith 3, and Nick Schwarte 2.    

Grade 8-SR 54 Batesville 47  

The host Raiders withstood a furious 4th quarter comeback attempt by the Bulldogs in a 54-47 victory. Both teams opened the game with full court presses, but behind some sharp shooting from South Ripley the Raiders pulled ahead 20-10 at the end of one quarter of play. The home boys put the clamps on the Bulldogs in quarter two, allowing only 3 points while scoring 11 to take a 31-13 lead into the break. Each team scored 15 third quarter points which set the stage for a frantic fourth. Batesville scored 19 points, but the Raiders weathered the storm to hold on for the win, their fourth in a row. Lane Sparks scored a game high 24 points, Cody Samples added 15, with Bryce Franklin scoring 9, Brady Linkel 4, and Dillon Binion 2. RJ Powell paced Batesville with 21 points, including 19 in the second half.  

The 7th graders stand at 2-3 while the 8th graders improve to 4-1. Both teams travel to Madison Shawe on Thursday, 6:00 tip.
