Police standoff ends peacefully in Greensburg

A search warrant led to a hours long standoff that ended when the suspect surrendered around 8 p.m.

Update (8:10 p.m.)

Police have just confirmed that the suspect involved in Friday’s standoff has surrendered.

Investigators say John Boyce, 49, was taken into custody without incident around 7:46 p.m.

He is now lodged at the Decatur County Jail.

Neither the suspect or officers were injured in the apprehension.

The standoff began after police served a warrant around 10 a.m. at the home on Indiana Street.

The agencies we saw on the scene include Greensburg Police, Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Greensburg Fire Department, Decatur County CERT, Decatur County EMA and a Greensburg Community Schools resource officer.

GREENSBURG, Ind. – Authorities are currently in the middle of a standoff in the 700 block of Indiana Street in Greensburg.

It began when Greensburg police officers attempted to serve a warrant at the residence around 10 a.m.

The man is barricaded in the home as police are concerned about the possibility of propane inside the residence.

Greensburg Police Chief Stacey Chasteen could not confirm that propane is present, but officers have evacuated the immediate area.

“We’ve got the immediate area evacuated everybody else is on lockdown,” Chasteen said. “We have EMA involved and the local church at West and Hendrix is assisting.”

Neighbors told the Greensburg Daily News that the man has weapons.
