VERSAILLES – The Versailles Safe Routes to School is making a strong push to promote healthier lifestyles for our local children.

Area organizers are joining the national movement of Safe Routes to School to provide safe and convenient opportunities for children to bike and walk to school.

The group invites area students in grades K-8 to participate in a free bike safety training and bike rodeo at the Courthouse Square in Versailles from 8-6 p.m. Saturday.

Children attending are asked to bring their bikes and helmets and register for a chance to win one of two bikes the organization will give away.

The Coolsville Bike Museum will also be hosting their 3rd annual Versailles Bicycle Blast and is planning a sale and swap with free food, prizes, even a bike ride in the late afternoon.

The local Safe Routes to School chapter began after a group of Versailles residents were concerned with present walkways and traffic along local highways and roads and desired safer pathways to encourage a healthier way of commuting for children and adults around South Ripley Schools.

WRBI will broadcast live at the Courthouse Square event Saturday from 12-3 p.m.
