Batesville police officers receive advanced training

Batesville, Ind. — Two Batesville police officers recently graduated from advanced training academies.

Crime scene investigator Chris Smith graduated from the National Forensic Academy. The program is a 10-week, 400-hour course taught at the University of Tennessee and is designed to increase proficiency in evidence identification, collection and preservation. The course also includes instruction on death investigations, serial number restoration forensic anthropology, shooting incident reconstruction, criminal investigative analysis and DNA.

The Ripley County Community Foundation and prosecutors offices in Franklin and Ripley County funded the training.

Sgt. Danny Hamilton graduated from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Leadership Academy. The Indianapolis-based training program focuses on decision-making, performance motivation and evaluation, conflict resolution, critical thinking, effective communication, liability management and labor relations.

Batesville Police Chief Stan Holt stated that “BPD is fortunate to have such dedicated officers like Sgt. Hamilton and CSI Smith to represent our agency and the citizens of Batesville”. 

CSI Smith is a 10-year veteran of the Batesville Police Department and Sgt. Hamilton has served on the department for 11 years.
