Authorities Release More About Suspects In High-Speed Chase

Investigators are releasing more information regarding the pair of suspects arrested after a high-speed chase Wednesday.

Officers attempted to stop two individuals in a pickup truck after they were suspected of burglarizing a home on Walters Road in Dearborn County.

Several officers had the vehicle surrounded near the intersection of Weisburg Road and Five Points when the driver allegedly attempted to flee and struck Det. Abe Hildebrand of the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office. He suffered a chipped tooth, but was otherwise uninjured.

An undercover trooper fired several shots at the vehicle as it sped away and led police on a high speed pursuit.

The pair of suspects jumped out of the vehicle on Sturwold Road in Franklin County where they were apprehended a short time later after a fleeing on foot.

Dakota Fraley, 20, of Holton and Chad Sumler, 24, of Versailles were arrested and booked into the Dearborn County Jail on a preliminary charge of burglary.

Authorities say more charges could be handed down.

Police say the incident was part of an ongoing investigation into a rash of daytime burglaries that have been occurring over the past couple months in Dearborn, Decatur and Ripley counties.

Multiple agencies worked together to develop suspects and set up surveillance teams which led to the arrests, police said.

Police worked well into the night executing search warrants that resulted in a quantity of evidence indicating possible stolen property and police believe the investigation could solve 25 to 30 burglaries in three counties.

Police hint that more individuals could face charges.
