Armed Robbery Forces School Lockdown Tuesday Morning *Update*

Update (April 22 @ 1:30 p.m.)

Authorities are currently searching for a suspect that allegedly robbed the K & K Mini Mart in Sunman with a gun at 6:00 a.m.

The attendant told police that a white male entered the store with a long gun. Authorities say the suspect went behind the counter and demanded cash from the register.

The man made off with an unknown amount of cash from the store and left the scene on foot.

The suspect, who had his face covered during the incident, is described as wearing a hoodie, with a green/white plaid shorts, and white shoes.

It is under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is asked to call (812) 689-5555.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery at a store in Sunman Tuesday.

Deputies responded to the K & K Mini Mart on Meridian Street this morning.

According to sources, no injuries were reported during the incident.

The Dearborn County Register is reporting that Sunman Elementary is on lockdown this morning as a result.

The suspect may have fled in a nearby mobile home park behind the business, causing school officials to issue a “soft lockdown.” A photo ID is required to enter the school today.

“We did that today to reinforce for staff and students that we never open the door for somebody we do not know,” said Sunman Elementary Principal Cindy Morton. “But school is going on as normal and we are just taking extra precautionary steps.”
