I just recently learned that two BHS alums are leading the Anderson University Ravens into the college World Series of Softball. Devon Moorman and Amy Wuestefeld are the two young ladies. They are both seniors at Anderson and have starred on the team for four years. Devon has won several pitching honors for the Heartland Conference. Amy leads the Ravens in almost every offensive category and was the MVP of the team. These young ladies, along with Amy’s sister Ashley, have done a great job representing Batesville at Anderson. The Wuestefeld twins were quite active while at BHS and still have some records at the school. Devon was one of the top pitchers to ever throw for the Bulldogs. I think both Devon and Amy have used up their eligibility. Both of the Wuestefeld girls also played basketball at Anderson. It is always great when local athletes make names for themselves in college and beyond. I am sure that all three of these young ladies have done quite well in the classroom, too. Congratulations to all three of them on fine college careers!

The Metamora Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their annual firemen’s festival at Gateway Park (across US 52 from Metamora) on Saturday, July 4. Parade starts at 6 pm at the park (route crosses US 52 and goes through Metamora). 3 pm food starts — pulled pork sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, ice cold drinks. Also included are kids’ games, pull tabs, bounce house, slides, tractor pull. Live music by Stagger Lee. Beer garden from 3 pm – 3 am. Fireworks at dusk at Gateway Park.

Come join the Metamora Volunteer Firemen and the Infamous Few Charity Riders for a day of riding and celebration. These men are all volunteers and need our support to keep their firehouse functioning and in good order so they too can help others when called upon! This ride will take us through scenic Franklin and Ripley Counties on a relaxing cruise through the countryside. Please plan on joining us for the entire day, as we will be having breakfast early and attending the Firemen’s Festival afterwards. Registration at the Hearthstone Restaurant: $20 per person / $25 per couple (10 am – 12 pm; breakfast available for purchase) Ride leaves at noon; ends a the firehouse and includes dinner with registration fee (all others are $8 per person)
