Alcohol Appears To Be Factor In Fatal 421 Crash

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ind. – A fatal crash claimed the life of one person and injured six others this weekend. Alcohol appears to be a factor, according to the Indiana State Police.

The accident occurred on U.S. 421 near the Jefferson Proving Ground main entrance around 3:50 p.m. Saturday.

A Ford Focus driven by 23-year-old Jordan Griffin, of Versailles, was northbound on U.S. 421 when the car crossed the centerline and struck a Dodge pickup truck.

A 21-year-old male Ford Focus passenger from Arkansas City, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the individual was not immediately released.

Griffin suffered minor injuries and bruising and authorities administered a Breathalyzer which Griffin tested at .41 percent is facing numerous charges, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup was 37-year-old Charles L. McRoberts, Jr, of Versailles. There were four children in the truck, three 11-year-old’s and also a 2-year-old.

Both drivers and passengers of the Dodge were taken to Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. Each 11-year-old was later airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment of more serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
