Alberta (Bert) Estridge

Alberta “Bert” (nee Behlmer) Daugherty Estridge, age 94, passed away January 23, 2016.

Longtime resident of Dover, and had been a resident of North Dearborn Village, Logan for the past 8 years. Born August 5, 1921 of Louisa Bernhardt and Frederick Behlmer of Adam’s Church area. Sister of the late Alma Meister, Gilbert (Evie), and Henry (Irene) Behlmer. Bert was married to George T. Daugherty until his passing at the age of 37. Later, Bert married Carlos “Dutch” Estridge, who passed in 1985.

Loving mother of Marge Lutz (Loren) and Judy Viel (Jim), both of Bright. Grandmother of Amy Viel Jones (Bill), Mark Lutz, Marsha Lutz Jones (Doug), and Sarah Viel Roell (Tony). Great-grandmother of Adelaide Jones, Bryson and Meredith Jones. Bert was the proprietor of the Wall Tavern in Dover, from 1947-1984.

She was well known for her bean soup and chili which she served at the tavern and later served at Lutz Auction Center. Bert made many friends at the North Dearborn Village and enjoyed being a member of the Red Hats. A member of St. John the Baptist Church in Dover for 69 years and she was one of the oldest members of All Saints Parish. She enjoyed working at the parish summer festivals and seeing longtime friends.

Friends may call upon the family on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 11:00am- 1:00pm at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home 25615 State Route 1, Dover, Indiana 47022. Funeral Service will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral home, burial following at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Dover. Memorials can be made to the Bright Fire & EMS.
