MADISON, Ind. - The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site is kicking-off spring with their annual A Garden Affair on Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s A Garden Affair will include a speaker, a spring luncheon, a silent auction and quality local vendors.

“One of the really fun aspects of A Garden Affair is that lunch will be served on tables decorated by Lanier Mansion Foundation board members,” said Lanier Mansion Foundation President Sandy Schaerli. “They use their own china, glassware and other items to create fun, new looks for their tables each year and they will serve the guests too.”

Nationally known landscape and interior designer Jamie Gibbs, principal of the New York based interior design and landscape architecture firm of Jamie Gibbs and Associates, will present this year’s talk entitled “Living in an old house does not mean you have to have an old garden: Tales of a garden restoration in Indianapolis.”

“My illustrated talk will highlight the plant selections, successes and pitfalls of this enormous project and I will give helpful suggestions to those looking to maintain and improve their own gardens,” said Gibbs. “Some of the highlights include spring bulb displays, container plantings, perennials old and new, flowering and evergreen shrubs, ornamental trees and garden ornaments.”

Doors open at 11 a.m. at The Old Market on Main, located at 801 West Main Street in downtown Madison, so that guests can shop at the vendors’ booths and inspect the silent auction items. Lunch will be served at noon and the speaker will begin at 1 p.m. The program will end around 2 p.m.

Admission to the program is $30 and reservations are required. Call 812.273.0556 by April 2 to ensure your reservation. All proceeds from the program benefit the Lanier Mansion Foundation, which supports the restoration and maintenance of the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site.

Lanier Mansion State Historic Site is located at 601 West First Street in Madison Ind.
