Knights of Columbus has partnered with Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati to host a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.

The Blood Drive is sponsored by St. Lawrence Council, and will take place at the Adult Center located at 311 W. Tate Street in Lawrenceburg, IN.

To schedule your appointment, please visit http://www.hoxworth.org/groups/kofc or call Dick Herron at (812) 637-2754. Hoxworth recognizes that blood donors\’ time is valuable. Priority will be given to donors who have scheduled an appointment. Walk-in donors are welcome and will be seen as soon as possible.

“Local blood donors ensure that local patients at 31 area hospitals receive the lifesaving blood products they need to survive,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. “Community blood drives are vitally important and we hope to see a good turnout at the Knights of Columbus blood drive.”

How to Donate:
Donating blood is safe and easy. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed parental consent) and in good health. Individuals must weigh at least 110 pounds and bring identification to donate. It is recommended that donors eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours before donating.

About Hoxworth:
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and proudly serves 31 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. These are just a few of the many species of butterfly you’re sure to encounter when you come to Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge for the annual butterfly count. At least 40 species of butterflies have been spotted during the survey in each of the previous counts. Those attending should meet at the refuge office on the morning of Saturday, August 2nd at 8:00 am. The refuge is especially interested in counting Monarch butterflies, whose populations have recently plummeted. These migratory beauties require native milkweeds to successfully reproduce. The loss of milkweed across the Midwest is one of the primary reasons for their decline. A $3.00 donation to the North American Butterfly Association would be appreciated for those participating in the count. Survey teams will be divided up based on the length of time you wish to spend in the field. Some folks may choose to join us for the entire day; others may want to make it a half  day.
