Act Like You Have Been There Before–Part 2

December 17, 2013

I know I have harped on this before, but the other day a defensive lineman for an NFL team made a simple tackle.  He jumped up, pounded his chest, flexed his muscles, danced like a rooster, and then went back to the defensive line.  For the position he was in and the fact that he was a starter means if he didn’t make this tackle he would have probably been taken out of the game.  In other words, it was a basic play.  Pro football is entertainment, and the goal is to sell tickets.  However, when a fully tattooed adult with hair flowing out of his helmet acts like a 3-year old on a temper tantrum, I don’t find it entertaining.  I find it revolting.  At least the NCAA has taken this out of the college game.  They have a rule that any attempt to taunt or show up an opponent results in a 15-yard penalty.  I have nothing against enjoying a good play, and people should be glad when they make such a play.  However, the pros are grown men and I guess I am simply an old fuddy duddy.
