A “Feel Good” Story

How about Union College, a small liberal arts college of 2200 students in New York state?  They offer no athletic scholarships, but this past weekend they defeated Minnesota (53,000 undergrads) who had 18 players on full scholarships.  How about that?

The final four in hockey have a total of 39 players who are NHL draft picks.  North Dakota leads the way with 15, Minnesota has 13, Boston College has 10, and Union College 1.  However, the one from Union College whose name is Shane Gostisbehere, is supposed to be the top pick of this group.  Not only has he outdone his more celebrated colleagues, but he also weighs just 175 pounds.  Most of the hockey players outweigh him by quite a few pounds.

Union beat Minnesota 7-4 to become NCAA champs.  This is Milan all over again but at the college level.

I want to thank my friend, Bob Hunteman, for providing me information on this story!
