A routine day on campus was abruptly interrupted when a senior at Purdue University shot and killed a teaching assistant, police said.

Purdue senior Andrew Boldt, 21, of West Bend, Wis., died Tuesday. Police arrested senior 23-year-old Cody Cousins on a preliminary charge of murder.

Investigators say the shooting occurred in a basement classroom of Purdue’s Electrical Engineering building in West Lafayette. Police believe Boldt was targeted by Cousins.

The shooting prompted mourning on the campus and beyond. Purdue, known nationally for its engineering and agricultural programs, has produced many graduates that reside. Southeastern Indiana.

Some took to social media following the shocking news:

Prayers to the Purdue community and the Boldt family after yesterday’s tragedy. Stay strong and Boiler Up!
This one hit a little too close to home. Prayers for Purdue and the Boldt family. #BoilerStrong
