INDIANAPOLIS – State officials have pushed back the start of 10-digit dialing for residents in the 812 area code.

The required change to dialing was scheduled to begin September 6, but delayed due to concerns from the medical and law enforcement industry.

You can continue using seven-digit dialing when making local calls until otherwise announced by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

The announcement comes just days after certain Verizon customers received a text message Wednesday informing them that the start of 10-digit dialing would begin September 6. That is no longer the case.

The new 930 area code is still scheduled to be launched despite the delay.
